I Hate Linux

I love hate mail

Between work, work and more work, my time for blogging, let alone side projects has been limited... but as I sit back in a hotel room in Webster, SD in between stakeouts near a local farm field as part of the 2010 muzzleloader season (white tail deer is the target), I was... entertained this morning by the following piece of hate mail:

Subject: There are so many ways to be a loser

Thanks for personally embracing so many at one time as to make your blog a classic of the "My Life Is A Warning To Others" category.

You use your blog to make yourself out to be a sadly typical dick-licking corporate kiss-up. When are you putting up your "I hate System 390" site? Did the amount of your student loans force you to sign on with an over-the-hill, used-to-was toy software company? What's the weather like in 1995?

Thanks for the feedback Sam.

  • If you're going to post stuff online, you're bound to get hate mail.

  • I can imagine Brendan, your charismatic and down to earth personality (and the fact that you are usually right about things) can bring out the worst in people. At least I've realized that for myself, those qualities (not particularly yours and not necessarily present day) can bring out the worst in me.

  • You are a fool to actually publish the email id of the person who wrote you that hate mail.

I can confidently say that you deserve it and you dont love the hate mail your only trying to take your revenge in a subtle way. Grow up!

  • On the contrary Vishwas, I do enjoy hatemail... and think that such vitriol should be public from the start so am more than eager to out those who feel that needs as they are so cowardly not to do it themselves.

  • Hmmm.. Kinda agree with you.. Do find your blog quite informative.

But why do you hate linux?

I am a Windows user, but I do not hate linux, if you hate it, it just means you haven't used enough. Every technology has its own drawbacks.

  • Short version: My hatred of Linux started out due to some work projects where some Linux things were thrust upon me and the information on the internet to solve such issues was limited... because of the culture surrounding Linux at the time.

At the time... one could summarize things as "I ain't got nothing against Linux, it's just it's fanclub I can't stand"... until you realize that the entire culture is flawed ("nyeh, fix it yourself, the source is there") and best to be avoided.

  • Alright mate.. I totally understand your predicament here..
The Microsoft community is much more open that way..

Cheers nice blog! :-) would take back the comments of calling you a fool..

    Apologies.

And yeah.. I wont post my email address.. Dont want to find myself in your next blog. :-)

  • No worries. Unlike the reason for this oh so old blog post, you at least had the courage to say something publically, rather than snipe from the shadows.

  • It is funny how many people take everything so seriously. :) - Nice hate mail.

I like the fact that everyone seems to criticize linux - it actually helps the development process and as a result my linux is getting better and better.

I love linux for the fact that as a website developer I have an ability to create, deploy and support websites that are scalable and reliable. With Windows or Mac I simply can not afford to compete with the big guys. What's not to love?
