Snitch #10: Defection from within

Forgot to click "Publish" last night... so the blog gets two new snitches this evening, even though this one was sent a hair later than planned:

Subject: Murtha defecting?

First the President puts a deadline of before the august recess to get health care reform passed... then he backs down and moves to a September deadline... isn’t it fishy that John Murtha is now suggesting that maybe it won’t happen until January... the year of a mid-term election no less.

What can we do to bring him in line again?

  • In some ways, I see echoes of "Hilarycare" - not the idea itself, I mean the political process. Clinton hit the ground running, in January 1993, with his party holding 56 Senate seats and 258 House, a reasonable majority in both. Despite that, as we all know, it stalled and was probably a big factor in the loss of both House and Senate in the following year's elections, as well as moderating Clinton's agenda from that point on.

After ramming the unpopular "porkulus" through and trying to ram this thousand-page monster through despite strong public opposition, the pattern could well be repeated - I just hope it doesn't get passed in the mean time.
